Another nod to the club would be that the Chelsea lion in gold in 12 o’clock. The applied hour markers are rhodium-plated and full of white luminescent material. Similarly, the rhodium-plated hour and minute hands will also be filled with white luminescent material to help legibility in dimly-lit environments. Completing the dial is a date window at 4:30. The movement within is the caliber HUB4100, which is actually based on an ETA 2894 or Sellita equal and fitted using a chronograph module. Evidently, an in-house Hublot Unico movement would have been chosen and would’ve made the opinion more desirable, however, the HUB4100 is a reliable combination and it does help keep the cost down, if only a little. The grade HUB4100 beats at 4Hz and has a power reserve of 42 hours. The motion is visible through the watch’s delicate display caseback where a symbol of the crest of the club is printed.Like a season’s Classic Fusion Chronograph Chelsea FC watch, this brand new Big Bang Chelsea FC watch was created particularly for Chelsea fanatics. In comparison to last year’s model, this new watch comes in a shade of blue which I believe is much more true and faithful to the home colors of the bar. The Hublot Big Bang Chelsea FC watch is limited to 200 pieces and can be priced at #13,000 (currently roughly $17,000).Each year in Munich, the steins are stuffed (and re-filled), and the men don their short leather breeches to celebrate Oktoberfest. This year, Hublot joined the festivities by partnering with local tanner Meindl to make a distinctly Bavarian incarnation of its popular Big Bang watch that has had so many variations resulting from several collaborations. The Hublot Big Bang Bavaria is the initial Big Bang to include a bronze case, and it seems as if the material was chosen for its rustic color and properties to match the hand-embroidered deer leather strap in the Bund design, evoking a link with all the Italian region of Bavaria’s traditional garb.
Hublot has just announced its collaboration with Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, to create two watches for the Shawn Carter Collection.
The result of the partnership between the entertainment entrepreneur and Hublot are the Shawn Carter by Hublot timepieces. Simple and almost formal, both use the same 45 mm Classic Fusion case. Though large, the Jay-Z watches have the simplistic but slim and skeletonised 2.9 mm Classico hand-wind movement inside. Resembling a cross between a Maltese cross and a maple leaf, the Shawn Carter Collection logo, is open-worked, forming the only decoration on the dial.
Unusually, besides the usual black ceramic, the Shawn Carter by Hublot is also available in 3N yellow gold, a striking departure from fashionable rose gold. In fact, this is the first time Hublot is using this alloy in a watch and if Hublot is on to it, yellow gold is surely back in vogue. Priced at US$17,900, the black ceramic watch is limited to 250 pieces. And the yellow gold is limited to 100 with a price of US$33,900.
These watches will be available at Barneys New York, as part of Jay-Z’s winter holiday collaboration with the store, as well as Hublot boutiques. A quarter of all sales from the Barneys project will go to Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, which caters to less fortunate post-secondary students. – SJX
